Calgary Eaves Troughs
Although not part of the roof itself, eaves troughs are indeed a part of a Complete Roof System. It's the job of your roof to shed water away from the inside of your home, but the task of keeping your home moisture free is not complete just yet, because it's the job of your eaves trough to carry that water away from the foundation of your building and into your yard or garden.
Without a properly functioning eaves trough, water would drip down off the ends of your roof and pool all around the foundation of your home. Pooling water in this way would mean your foundation would be continuously moist and wet, and if there are any minor cracks in your foundation buried by dirt and soil, you can surely bet your bottom dollar moisture will find its way in.
Here are a few quick pointers of what most Calgary Eaves Troughs system should look like:
- Eaves Trough downspouts extending a minimum of six feet away from your foundational walls
- On all upper roof to lower roof transition areas, downspouts should carry water from the upper eaves trough down to the lower eaves trough
- A 5" wide trough is a typical width, anything larger and you will see substantial cost increases, and 5" is just fine in most scenario's
- Corners should be well sealed to prevent any drips
- One piece continuous seamless trough systems are by far preferable to various length pieces connected together
- Eaves lengths are to be angled towards downspouts to ensure water may flow easily downward and then away from your home
- We recommend for a yearly cleaning of your eaves troughs to be completed to ensure
- In areas of high debris concern such as beside a very large tree, it is advisable to install a downspout guard, which prevents leaves from clogging your downspouts
- The drip edge on your roof should extend and overhang well into your eaves system. If your eaves troughs are installed too far down from the drip edge, you may find water seep in behind
